No news is good news
So I’ve just submitted my paper – the culmination of 4 years of hard scientific work – to a very good journal.
It’s Thursday afternoon, nearly Friday. I feel like I’ve been run over by a tank. And I find myself thinking, I don’t care if it gets sent out for review and ultimately gets rejected: I’m just happy that don’t have to think about it for a while.
So go ahead, referees: take as long as you like.
Really.
I’m with you, Jenny. Just submitted one last week and just glad to have it off my mind. For now.
In fact, I’d be much obliged if the editor waits til Monday even to tell me they’ve decided not to send it out for review, if it comes to that. I’d like a few days of blissful denial.

Well, I’m sure it’s splendid. But getting published in a “good” journal is an ineffable combination of skill and luck.
Congratulations on getting the paper off, and now you may take a well-deserved rest. Catch up on your sleep.
Still no word yet…I get sick every time I open my work email!
Aaaaannd…they sent it out for review!
At least a few more weeks of freedom at least.
